IPL: Kolkata Win Comprehensively Against Punjab

The Kolkata Knight Riders raced to an easy eight wicket win against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali on Thursday
Chasing a modest target of 125, skipper Gambhir led from scoring 66 to help Kolkata achieve the target without much hassle. Gambhir played a stellar inning cutting with disdain and style as he steadily progressed in the run chase. The defensive field settings by Punjab further helped his cause as no men where put around his bat. Piyush Chawla took the two wickets to fall in Kolkata innings but in company of the experienced Kallis, Gambhir took his team comfortably home.
On a green wicket that lacked moisture, Punjab elected to bat first after winning the toss. Gilchrist began with intent, getting the innings off to a brisk start. But except for Gilchrist none of their batsmen managed to get going. When Gilchrist retired hurt, at the scored of 44 for 1, the scoring slowed down and wicket fell at regular intervals. Shaun Marsh tried to hold the innings together with a knock of 33 off 30 balls, but with Kolkata bowlers maintaining a tight leash, the run-rate suffered and wickets fell. Gilchrist came out to bat again in the 17th over and remained unbeaten in the end on a score of 40 but by then the damage had been done.
