ICC Test Rankings: Australia And Chanderpaul Climb Up

The recent Test series concluded with the Australians getting a well fought 2-0 victory over West Indies. This win meant that Australia continued on their ascent in the Test rankings. They swapped places with India and reached the number three spot in the ICC rankings. The Antipodeans’ had begun the series on equal point with India, but their good show in the Caribbean meant that they upstaged India though by one point only. England meanwhile continue on top of the table with South Africa occupying the number two spot. England have a chance to increase their lead at the top of the list when they face West Indies on home ground next month, and thereafter play against the South Africans too.
There were changes at the top of the ICC rankings for batsmen too, as Shivnarine Chanderpaul usurped the number one spot from Jacques Kallis. His stupendous show of 346 runs in the three matches at an average of 86.50 not only got him the Man Of the Series award, but also the position of the best Test batsman in world cricket presently. At number two and three are the South African pair of Kallis and AB DeVilliers.
During the course of his last innings of 69 runs, Chanderpaul became only the tenth batsman in history to score more than 10,000 Test runs, a feat which had the entire ground standing on its feet, and brought applause from the Australian team too. Chanderpaul had last held the no. One position in July 2008.
