In a high scoring bonanza at the Ferozeshah Kotla, the Royal Challengers bangalore defeated table toppers Delhi Daredevils by 21 runs. Chris Gayle gave yet another demonstration of power hitting in his innings of 128 which was laced with 13 sixes, an IPL record.

Put in to bat first, RCB lost Dilshan early. Gayle played out a maiden at the beginning of the innings, and Kohli was trying to feel himself in after a disappointing IPL till now. But that was to be the calm before the storm as Gayle got into his six hitting mode once again. Delhi had rested Morne Morkel for the match, and in his absence the attack was put to the sword. Kohli and Gayle shared an unbeaten 200 plus partnership, setting yet another record. RCB scored 215 runs in their quota of overs, breaking the previous record for the most runs in an innings in the IPL. Kohli gave the West Indian perfect company as he helped himself to 73 runs.

If Delhi had to get anywhere close to the target, David Warner had to fire, especially since Sehwag was not playing the match due to injury. The Australian opener though failed. Unmukt Chand started off brightly, but went for one shot too many and got dismissed. Jayawardena too did not make a contribution. Ross Taylor who has had a poor IPL till now, came out swinging. The hockey sweeps started coming off and the ball kept repeatedly sailing over the boundary line. Venugopal Rao played the ideal foil and produced some big hitting of his own. Taylor got to his half century off just 22 balls, and with 74 needed off 6 overs, the target started looking surmountable. Andre Russell announced himself with a first ball six, and served notice of his talent with an innings of 31 in 15 balls. However, Zaheer Khan produced some good death over bowling to stifle the scoring and prevent an improbable chase.
