Giro d’Italia 2013 Stage 13: TV schedule, map, route and more

The longest stage of the Giro d’Italia gets underway Friday.

Following Stage 12 on Thursday, the Giro d’Italia gets set for the race’s longest stage. Stage 13 covers 254 kilometers, or about 158 miles, with a highest point of 714 meters (2,342.5 feet). Though it is generally considered a stage for sprinters -- most of the first 190 or so kilometers are flat -- the final leg of the stage is hilly and figures to require a high level of endurance to win.

Stage 13 is the last flat portion of the Giro before it enters Stages 14 and 15, a brutal mountain stretch through the Alps on Saturday and Sunday that leads participants into their second rest day of the race.

Stage 12 was won by Omega Pharma Quick Step’s Mark Cavendish, from Great Britain. It was his third stage win of the Giro. Chris Fontecchio of Podium Cafe describes the action in his Stage 12 recap:

Cavendish’s third stage win -- and the 100th of his career -- came at the end of a dreary day, yet another wet and cold stage of this sloppy spring in Italy. Cav got a perfect leadout on the sprint and his result was sealed early. Behind him, however, the battle between Bouhanni and Sacha Modolo of Bardiani was a fierce one, ending with Bouhanni swerving right, then left -- following Cavendish’s movements -- and then shouldering Modolo off the line en route to second place.

ESPN Deportes and Eurosport will televise the race live. For a complete schedule, as well as other streaming video alternatives, visit Steephill.tv.
