Tour de France 2013, Stage 12: Route, TV schedule and more

The Tour de France continues on Thursday with Stage 12 heading into Tours, France.

Doug Pensinger

The Tour de France will head into the non-ironically named Tours on Thursday morning as the cyclists race from Fougères for a relatively flat 218 kilometers.

The stage is set up to be a sprinter’s race, but the small and steep hills, road conditions and inconsistent weather always seems to put a damper on it truly being a “sprint.”

Mark Cavendish is the favorite, according to SB Nation cycling site Podium Cafe, even after he was doused with urine earlier in the race. That would be quite impressive considering the 28-year-old currently sits in 149th place after the completion of Stage 11, but Chris Fontecchio seems optimistic about his chances.

Can there be any doubting the magical power of human urine, which has transformed Cav into a sympathetic figure? He’s also very fast, and while Kittel’s win yesterday may herald the arrival, at last, of someone fast enough to take on Cav directly, it’ll be the Manxman with all the motivation, and a very strong squad, on his side.

The stage is set to begin at 6:50 a.m. ET, according to Steephill.tv. U.S. television coverage will begin at 8 a.m. ET on NBC Sports Network and online coverage will be provided by Tour de France Live (although it requires a fee).
