Christopher Froome won the harsh Stage 15 climb up Mont Ventoux, and took a commanding lead atop the general classification at the 2013 Tour de France in the process. Two days after crosswinds wreaked havoc on the peloton and helped Alberto Contador cut more than a minute into Froome’s lead, Froome gained back 1:40 on the Spaniard and expanded his lead to more than four minutes over second-place overall Bauke Mollema.

Unsurprisingly, Froome’s ride over bumpy terrain launched him to the top of the King of the Mountains standings ahead of a struggling Pierre Rolland. Second-place Mikel Nieve Iturralde will wear the polka dot jersey for Stage 16 while Froome rides in yellow for a ninth straight stage.

Peter Sagan earned 20 points towards his points classification lead. He is now 99 points ahead of second-place Mark Cavendish, giving him a likely insurmountable lead for the green jersey.
