The 100th Tour de France concluded Sunday with Great Britain's Chris Froome winning his first title, but the champion who coasted to the title did so ceremoniously and cautiously, away from the heat of the front of the pack. Marcel Kittel won the 133 1/2-kilometer Stage 21 from Versailles to Paris.

Crossing the finish line under the lights in Paris at Champs-Elysees just in front of Andre Greipel and Mark Cavendish, Kittel ended his Tour de France effort in style.

Kittel finished the stage in three hours, six minutes and 14 seconds. He also won stages 1, 10 and 12.

Froome finished the stage in 114th place, losing 53 seconds off his final tally in the closing kilometers. But he was hardly pressed, already soaking in his status as second Briton to win the 100-year-old race just one year after finishing second to the first Briton to accomplish the feat, Bradley Wiggins. He crossed the finish line arm-in-arm with his Team Sky teammates.
