Tour de France 2014 results and standings, Stage 12: Alexander Kristoff rolls to victory

Kristoff finished first on Thursday with Peter Sagan coming in right behind him.

Alexander Kristoff of Team Katusha won Stage 12 of the 2014 Tour de France on Thursday, coming in with a time of 4:32:11. Peter Sagan of Cannondale continued his strong showing to this point, finishing in second place on the day. The Norwegian Kristoff was able to take the stage largely on the sprint at the conclusion.

For Kristoff, it is his first stage win at the Tour de France. Stage 12 was a highly demanding section of the course, starting in Bourg-En-Bresse, traveling through Romaneche-Thorins, Col de Brouilly, Col des Brosses and Cote de Grammond, and finishing in Saint-Etienne.

Overall, Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali leads the race, and Sagan holds the points lead. Joaquim Rodriguez is the mountains leader.

Nibali holds a 2 minute, 23 second lead entering the the mountains on Friday. Stage 13 starts in the city of Saint-Etienne and finishes in Chamrousse. It features three climbs, the final one is the category H climb to the finish line at Montee de Chamrousse.
