After breaking away from a trio of leaders with 4.5 kilometers remaining in the 16th stage of the Tour de France, Michael Rogers became the first rider to reach Bagneres-de-Luchon Tuesday, but Vicenzo Nibali continues to wear the yellow jersey.

A late push helped Australian Michael Rogers win the first Tour de France stage of his cycling career.


After working with the breakaway pack much of the day, Rogers, an Australian riding for Tinkoff-Saxo, made a late push after passing Port de Bales to earn the first stage victory of his career, finishing the 237 km stage in 6 hours, 7 minutes, 10 seconds. Thomas Voeckler of France finished nine seconds behind Rogers, along with a pack that included Vasili Kiryienka, Jose Serpa, Cyril Gautier and Greg Van Avermaet.
Nibali, of Astana Pro Team, arrived 8½ minutes behind the leaders, maintaining his overall lead of 4 minutes, 37 seconds ahead of Valverde Belmonte. Thibault Pinot is 5:06 back.
The Tour will resume its trek through the Pyrenees Mountains, along France’s border with Spain, with Stage 17 on Wednesday.
