Shinji Kagawa to miss four weeks with knee injury

The Manchester United midfielder is facing a four week absence with a knee injury.

Manchester United will be without Shinji Kagawa for four weeks as he recovers from a knee injury. The Japanese international had been dealing with a knock and hurt it worse on Tuesday in Champions League action. Now he is going to have to sit and wait for it to heal.

"Kagawa is out for three to four weeks," Sir Alex Ferguson said. "Playing on Tuesday didn't help. It is disappointing."

United doesn't have a favorable schedule over the next month either. They have a huge clash against Chelsea on Sunday and have to play Braga in Portugal, neither of which Kagawa will be available for.

Without Kagawa, Ferguson will have to search for attacking options. The most likely choice is to play Wayne Rooney underneath two strikers, which he has done even when Kagawa was available, but that becomes especially probably now.

It wasn't all bad news on the injury front for United, tough. Chris Smalling returned to training and is working his way back from a broken metatarsal, while Phil Jones is also nearing a return to training.
