Manchester United, Arsenal agree Danny Welbeck fee?

Arsenal have bid around £16 million for Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, claims the BBC

Mark Thompson

The great saga of Danny Welbeck will live long in the memory after it reaches its close in the next few hours, for it is a gripping tale of drama, mystery and perseverance. The latest twist in our hero's tale is that Manchester United and Arsenal have apparently agree a deal to take the forward to the Emirates on a permanent basis.

The fee? A cool £16 million, according to the BBC’s transfer rumour tracker*. That’s obviously not a done deal, but it’s horribly plausible for a player who’s always promised much but has delivered very little. With Radamel Falcao set to come in at Manchester United, Welbeck is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, and Arsenal desperately need a new striker.

*Sky Sports disagree, for whatever that’s worth.

So it’s a win-win for the clubs, and a win win for Welbeck, who’ll presumably get a nice little raise out of the deal -- or at least an extended contract at his already-inflated wages for his troubles. Such heroism! Such drama!

It was previously reported that Spieth, Thomas and Fowler all went in on Leeds United. That does not appear to be entirely the case.
