San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews saw his day come to a premature conclusion after a strong showing that was marred by multiple injuries. Mathews finished the day with 125 rushing yards but he had to enter and exit the game as injuries built up. The Chargers lead back injured his calf in the first quarter and subsequently injured his wrist as well.
Ryan Mathews Injury Update: Calf, Wrist Injuries End Day Early
The Chargers were forced to mix up their rushing game due to these injuries as well as a concussion suffered by Mike Tolbert. Jacob Hester was forced into extra duty and finished with 11 carries for 47 yards, running behind impromptu fullback Randy McMichael. The Chargers were forced to mix and match but still found success in holding off the Denver Broncos.
The Chargers will likely have an update on both Mathews and Tolbert on Monday. I would suspect the two backs will be sidelined for some of practice this week. It will likely take at least two or three days to get a better idea of the full status of both running backs.
