Rashard Mendenhall Fantasy Recap: Steelers Running Back Returns From Obscurity

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall broke out Sunday in a big way as the Steelers held off the Jacksonville Jaguars 17-13. Mendenhall had not exceeded 66 rushing yards prior to Sunday but he blew up with 146 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. After averaging no more than 3.8 yards per carry, Mendenhall averaged 6.3 in the victory.

The Steelers as a whole had been struggling along with Mendenhall and his return to form could mirror the Steelers return. Mendenhall gets a juicy week seven matchup as the Steelers head to Arizona to face the Cardinals. Road games are never simple, but this would seem to provide an opportunity for Mendenhall to build on his week six success.

It is also useful to note that Isaac Redman and Jonathan Dwyer combined for only six carries behind Mendenhall. There was some thought they might get a few extra carries, but that was not the case on Sunday. Mendenhall is the guy in the backfield and that is that.
