Christian Ponder Fantasy: Effective, But Unspectacular

If Christian Ponder is your starting fantasy quarterback, you're probably pretty happy with his performance on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Ponder threw for 236 yards and a touchdown on 18 of 28 passing. Not a great day, but nothing to be too worried about either.

With the team struggling with Donovan McNabb under center, the Minnesota Vikings turned to Ponder as their full-time starter in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers. In his limited appearances he has looked just like a rookie quarterback should, going 22-for-49 passing for 318 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Anybody considering Ponder for fantasy purposes must be in a deep two-QB league. Otherwise there really isn’t any reason that an unproven rookie should be on your radar. Look for the Vikings to emphasize the running game while Ponder gets his feet wet.
