Miles Austin Injury Update: The Fantasy Impact

The Dallas Cowboys escaped San Francisco with a huge overtime 27-24 comeback win, but they lost one of their playmakers in the process. Prior to the overtime conclusion, Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin pulled his hamstring and had to leave the game. He finished the game with nine receptions for 143 yards and three touchdowns but now the team is concerned he might miss the next two weeks leading into the team's bye week. Hamstring injuries are tricky so they may opt to play it conservatively.

If Dez Bryant is able to return for their Monday Night Football game against the Washington Redskins, the Cowboys would be able to swap back in a playmaker. Of course, they also may have a new playmaker on their hands. Reserve receiver Jesse Holley entered the game with one career reception. He left the game with three more plus 96 receiving yards. His stats total were a bit padded with a 77-yard overtime reception against blown coverage but it is an impressive performance nonetheless.

Holley is not really a guy you’ll want to jump on right away on waivers unless you’ve got an end of the roster guy you really don’t care about one way or the other. If Austin is unable to play the next two weeks, Holley does retain a little bit of value. One possible play with Holley is sit on him these next two weeks hoping for some strong performances and then try and convince a sucker in your league that he’s worth acquiring via trade. Outside of winning a fantasy championship, there’s nothing quite as fun as pulling the wool over another owner’s eyes.
