Fantasy Football Week 4 Wide Receiver Projections: Mike Wallace Makes News

SB Nation Fantasy Football partner, playthisguy.com, uses the wisdom of crowds approach to ranking fantasy football players each week. The idea is they survey Internet sites who dispense fantasy football rankings, 19 of them this week, and combine those into one easily digestible list.

For wide receivers, the new beast is Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions. He's surpassed Andre Johnson as the consensus top dog this week, especially going against a Cowboys secondary that has been banged up. Somewhat of a surprise is the guy who slides into second, Pittsburgh's Mike Wallace. For all the Steelers struggles early on, Wallace has been a bright spot. He and Roethlisberger are hooking up for yards and touchdowns, and against a Texans defense that does gives up points to receivers, he looks like a real threat this week.

It was starting to be whispered that Steve Smith of the Panthers was fading from the fantasy scene. The Carolina offense was stagnant, and Smith wasn't producing. Now, with Cam Newton at the helm, Smith has had a re-birth, even though last week was a dud. Expect Smith to comeback strong this week facing the Bears.

Week 4 Consensus Rankings

1. Calvin Johnson (DET @ DAL)
2. Mike Wallace (PIT @ HOU)
3. Andre Johnson (HOU vs. PIT)
4. Vincent Jackson (SD vs. MIA)
5. Larry Fitzgerald (ARI vs. NYG)
6. Wes Welker (NE @ OAK)
7. Roddy White (ATL @ SEA)
8. Greg Jennings (GB vs. DEN)
9. Steve Johnson (BUF @ CIN)
10. Steve Smith (CAR @ CHI)
