Peyton Manning Could Play Just One Or Two Series Thursday: Fantasy Implications

Peyton Manning could play just one or two series during the Broncos’ preseason opener against the Bears, according to reports. Whether we learn anything about his status as a fantasy player remains to be seen.

Peyton Manning could play just one or two series during his debut with the Denver Broncos on Thursday night against the Chicago Bears, according to Albert Breer of NFL.com. Breer spoke with team executive vice president of football operations John Elway, who said Manning's playing time may depend on how well the offensive line protects him, and how quickly the quarterback can gain some confidence.

“If things go well right off the bat, have a nice scoring drive, then get him out,” Elway said. “You wanna get something going to where they have a good drive. You don’t want to have three three-and-outs. You wanna get some confidence, get some first downs, and maybe put some points on the board. If we do that, get him out, and go to the next week.”

Analysis: Manning is one of this year’s most intriguing fantasy options for obvious reasons. He has a well-established history of putting up massive numbers, but reports have indicated that he is still recovering from neck problems. We likely won’t see as much of Manning as we would like Thursday, but we should see enough to get a better sense of his ability at this point.
