As far as first days on the job go, January 20, 2025 will be one for the history books.

The Formula 1 history books.

Today marked Lewis Hamilton’s first day on the job as a driver for Ferrari, a day the Tifosi had been waiting for since last year’s stunning announcement that the living legend would leave Mercedes at the end of the 2024 F1 season, and join the Scuderia for the 2025 campaign.

Hamilton met with Ferrari Team Principal Frederic Vasseur and CEO Benedetto Vigna outside Enzo Ferrari’s iconic office, with its white walls, red doors, and red shutters.

Hamilton was dressed for the occasion, and posed for photographs in front of a Ferrari F40. He posted about the day on social media, describing it as the realization of a “dream.”

“There are some days that you know you’ll remember forever and today, my first as a Ferrari driver, is one of those days. I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realise that dream today,” wrote Hamilton.

“Today we start a new era in the history of this iconic team, and I can’t wait to see what story we will write together.”

The 2025 Formula 1 season begins in earnest next month with pre-season testing in Bahrain. The first race of the season — and Hamilton’s first race with Ferrari — is the Australian Grand Prix, slated for March 16.
