This week, the Styrian hills will come alive with the sounds of Formula 1 power units, as the grid heads to Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix.
The last race weekend, the Canadian Grand Prix, delivered the moment F1 fans were bracing for since the season began. In the closing laps of the race McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris — the two drivers currently sitting first and second in the Drivers’ Championship standings — battled for fourth place behind George Russell, Max Verstappen, and Kimi Antonelli.
As the two McLaren teammates clashed, they came together in the run up to Turn 1, and Norris’ MCL39 suffered terminal damage as a result of the collision.
Norris took immediate responsibility for the collision, and McLaren has indicated they will turn the page and go back to “racing” this week. But the aftermath of that battle will be one of the major storylines to watch this week in Austria.
And SB Nation will have you covered every step of the way.

Lando Norris, after missing FP1 as McLaren gave young developmental driver Alex Dunne a chance to run in practice, had dominated the time sheets over the next two practice sessions, as well as during both Q1 and Q2. But this was a scenario the paddock had seen before this season, weeks where Norris looked the prohibitive favorite for pole position until a wobble, a slip-up, a mistake in Q3 opened the door for one of his rivals, doors drivers like Max Verstappen, George Russell, and Oscar Piastri were more than happy to storm through.

Friday’s pair of practice sessions offered a slight variation on a somewhat consistent theme from this season: A strong start from McLaren. While Lando Norris sat out the first practice session in favor of young Alex Dunne they still put both cars in the top four in FP1, with Oscar Piastri posting the third-fastest time in the session and Dunne just behind him in fourth.

That is Alex Dunne, who made his Formula 1 debut in FP1, driving for McLaren in place of Lando Norris.
