Francesco Mollinari shot a final round 5-under 67 to win the HSBC Champions, his first win of the season and second of his career. Lee Westwood, who although finished in second place, didn’t have a bogey in his final 43 holes and looked the part of the world’s top player.
HSBC Champions: Mollinari Closes Out Westwood, Field To Win Title
In the end, the tournament came down to a battle between Mollinari and Westwood. Mollinari ended the day at 19-under, topping Westwood by just a shot. Luke Donald and and Richie Ramsay finished in a tie for third place, ten shots back of Mollinari’s mark.
Tiger Woods finished strong on Sunday with a closing 4-under 68, finishing him in a tie for seventh place.
Martin Kaymer and Phil Mickelson both had the opportunity to take the No. 1 ranking from Westwood this week, however neither could keep up with Mollinari’s pace. Kaymer finished at 2-under while Mickelson ended the tournament at 1-over.
