Bob Hope Classic: Jhonattan Vegas, Boo Weekley Lead After Second Round
Vegas is a relative unknown on the PGA Tour, competing in just his fifth event. He earned his tour card in 2010, becoming the first Venezuelan to play on the tour. He brings a feel-good story with him, moving to the United States in 2002 and working hard to learn English and get into college before earning his way onto the PGA tour.
Charles Howell III is lurking behind Vegas and Weekley, one shot back at 12-under for the tournament.
Derek Lamely, the first round leader at the Bob Hope, shot a 1-over-73 on Thursday as he fell all the way into a tie for 18th, five shots off the pace. Matt Kuchar, Kenny Perry and Rory Sabbatini are among those in the logjam at 8-under.
Play resumes on Friday morning in a rare 90-hole tour event. The players will again be spread out among four courses in the Palm Springs area -- PGA West (Palmer Course), La Quinta CC, Silver Rock, PGA West (Nicklaus Course).
