Presidents Cup 2011 Score Update: Tiger Woods Falls Again; USA Splits Friday Matches

After falling flat during the opening matches of the 2011 Presidents Cup, Tiger Woods was given a new partner for Friday’s best ball round. Though Woods and Dustin Johnson made it close, they were unable to overcome Aaron Baddely and Jason Day on the 18th hole, as the international pairing won, 1-up. Even still, thanks to a strong opening round of matches, the USA maintained its Presidents Cup lead, holding a 7-5 advantage after two rounds.

The USA split its matches on Friday at Royal Melbourne in Australia, winning three and losing three. Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson won the first match of the day, downing Ernie Els and Ryo Ishikawa, 2&1. Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk were also 2&1 winners over Adam Scott and Anthony Kim. Matt Kuchar and Steve Striker, Woods’ Thursday partner, turned in the most convincing win of the day, putting away Y.E. Yang and Robert Allenby, 4&3.

On the Internation side, Geoff Oglivy and K.J. Choi defeated Bill Haas and Nick Watney, 1-up. Retief Goosen and Charl Schwartzel were also 2&1 winners over Hunter Mahan and David Toms.

The action picks back up again on Saturday in Australia, Friday in the United States, with the USA holding a two-point advantage.

The 2011 Presidents Cup resumes on Friday in Australia, or late Thursday night here in the US, with another wave of matches. For more on the Presidents Cup, visit Waggle Room and SB Nation’s Golf hub.
