Presidents Cup 2011 Score Update: USA Holds 13-9 Lead Heading Into Singles Matches

The USA has the 2011 Presidents Cup in its sights, heading into Sunday with a four-point advantage after a solid three days of work. After nearly sweeping the Saturday morning matches in Australia, the US took a step back, dropping three of five matches to the International side in the four ball -- or best ball -- matches in the afternoon. Even still, the American side is up 13-9 with all 12 players from each side set to take the course on Sunday.

The Saturday afternoon matches were close throughout, with the largest margins of victory 2&1. Retief Goosen and Charl Schwartzel opened the action strong for the International side, beating Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson in the opening match, 2&1. After notching a win in the morning, Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson weren’t so lucky in the afternoon, falling to Anthony Kim and Y.E. Yang, 1-up. Geoff Oglivy and K.J. Choi also secured a 1-0 win for the International team.

The USA’s first win of the afternoon session came in the second-to-last match, thanks to a 2&1 victory from Hunter Mahan and Bill Haas. In the final match of the day, Jim Furyk and Nick Watney beat Adam Scott and Ernie Els, 1-up.

The 2011 Presidents Cup concludes on Sunday in Australia, or Saturday afternoon here in the US, with the singles matches. For more on the Presidents Cup, visit Waggle Room and SB Nation’s Golf hub.
