2011 British Open: Chance Will Play A Role As Players Battle Harsh Conditions
It’s dramatically different than the style required at most PGA Tour events, but this makes the Open utterly fascinating. The greatest players solve the puzzle.
That’s why the career Grand Slam qualifies as the most meaningful achievement in golf. Only five players in history – Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods – have won all four majors at least once.

The news that the wind has tournament organizers considering moving in the tees suggests that this particular British Open could be a wacky one indeed.
The Chronicle article suggests that American players, in particular, will have to keep a positive attitude when things happen they can’t control. That’s true – you can only play the hand you’re dealt. Look for strange things to happen as the Open unfolds in the coming days.
