Sergio Garcia has had a rather rough golf career for barely being past his 30th birthday, but the Spaniard is hoping to change his fortunes this week at the British Open. Through one round, it isn’t off to a terrible start.
2011 British Open Championship: Sergio Garcia Finishes First Round Even In Quest For First Major Victory
Garcia’s first round at Royal St. George’s in Sandwich, England, was good enough for par as he scored an even 70 to finish his day in a tie for 23rd place. Had Garcia not faltered by bogeying on two of the final three holes, however, he would have been in fine position to get the monkey off his back by winning his first Major.
That isn’t to say that winning the Open is now out of the realm of possibility, however. There are still three rounds to go and Garcia has more top-10 finishes (six) in the British Open than any of the other PGA Tour major events, making it possible that he could rebound over the next few days as he has in the past.
