British Open 2011: Rory McIlroy Talks Time Off On Piers Morgan

Rory McIlroy might be coming off the biggest win of his young life, but despite that -- or perhaps because of it -- he’s already running into some criticism. Mostly for not playing between his big U.S. Open win and the British Open. He talked to Piers Morgan about it.

“Time off and time away from the game is nearly as important as the time you practice, because if I play golf every day, you get stale, you go through the motions it becomes a little bit tedious,” McIlroy said. “But once you go away from the game for a couple of weeks you get that freshness back, that determination and hunger that makes you want to practice.”

McIlroy also spoke, somewhat awkwardly, about being called the next Tiger Woods. And Morgan wasn’t just asking about his drive.

McIlroy is also a fan of Swedish House Mafia, in case you were wondering. And we know you were.
