The AT&T National at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa., does not a new leader quite yet. Chris Kirk’s performance on Saturday, however, definitely did not hurt his quest to move to the top of the tournament leaderboard.
AT&T National 2011 Leaderboard: Chris Kirk Surges In Third Round Play
Kirk, a University of Georgia alumnus playing in his first full year on the PGA circuit, registered a tournament-low 63-stroke Day 3 performance while shooting seven strokes under par.
After struggling by shooting a 70 and 71 respectively during the first two rounds of the tournament, Kirk now finds himself sitting in a tie for third in the standings with over half the field already in the clubhouse.
The two golfers currently ahead of Kirk are Rickie Fowler and Steve Marino. Fowler, through the front nine, currently sits at eight-under while Marino is on pace to tie Kirk’s 63 today to go seven-under at the AT&T National heading into Sunday’s final round.
On the other end of the spectrum, Paul Goydos really struggled on Saturday, finishing with four bogeys and two double bogeys to turn in a nine-over 79 on his Day 3 scorecard.
