Americans Zach Johnson and Webb Simpson, along with South Korea’s K.J. Choi, are each at three under par, taking an early lead in the 2011 BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Illinois.

Johnson and Simpson each opened on the back nine, with Simpson birdying three of his first four holes, while Johnson birdied No. 10, No. 12 and No. 15. Choi opened with par on No. 1 before posting consecutive birdies on the No. 2, No. 2 and No. 4.
England’s Justin Rose and Americans Chris Kirk, Jim Furyk, Chez Reavie and Ryan Palmer are all two under early in their rounds.
The purse for the 2011 BMW Championship is $8 million, with the winner taking home $1.44 million. In addition to money, points for the FedEx Cup standings are at stake, which is important because only the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup point standings will be invited to next week’s Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, GA.
The golfer who ranks first in the FedEx Cup standings at the conclusion of the Tour Championship will earn a $10 million bonus.
