The final group is out on the course at CordeValle Golf Club and John Mallinger holds a one-shot lead over Jonas Blixt on Sunday at the Frys.com Open. Blixt has been the hottest player in the Fall Series, posting several low numbers over the past two weeks. A third-round 66 moved him two shots back of Mallinger, who lit up the scoreboard in the first two rounds.

Blixt opened his round with two straight birdies to even things up, but a dropped shot on No. 3 has him chasing Mallinger yet again.

Mallinger is a steady player who’s bounced back and forth from having full status and conditional status on Tour, but he’s contended at several events during his career. His best finish to date is T2, so a win on home soil for the native Californian would be a career-defining moment. He started his round birdie-bogey and is even through the first three holes

Two veteran names trying to make a Sunday charge are Charles Howell III and Vijay Singh. Howell is playing in the final group alongside Blixt and Mallinger, but he has yet to pick up a shot on Sunday, opening with three straight pars. He’s at 12-under and three shots back of the lead.

Singh is even with Howell at 12-under, trying to make up the three-shot deficit with 14 holes to play. Singh drained a birdie on No. 4 to pick up a shot, but he’ll need to get hot with the putter or hope that the leaders come back to the field. The game’s ultimate grinder is a millionaire many times over, but he continues to show up at lesser events as he’s in a constant state of working on his game.
