With the election not even two weeks off, and perhaps seeking to deflect attention from the ongoing brouhaha surrounding his Scottish golf course, the self-imposed leader of the so-called “birther” movement held the nation hostage Wednesday morning as he readied what he promised would be a game-changing pronouncement about President Barack Obama. Like everything else related to the beady-eyed real estate mogul and reality show star who has made a cottage industry out of attacking all-things Obama (including his addiction to golf, something the two might actually have in common), Trump’s big announcement was -- wait for it -- all about the guy with the mother of all comb-overs.

Here’s something Democrats and Republicans can probably agree on: Donald Trump is a puffed-up, self-aggrandizing, golf course-owning blowhard who can’t stand it that he won’t be president of the United States.

Viewers who tuned into YouTube to observe Trump’s Twitter-trumpeted bombshell were probably disappointed unless they expected a firecracker whose fuse fizzled instead of popped. Seriously, pledging $5 million to a charity of Obama’s choice in exchange for the president’s passport and college records was what Trump promised “Fox & Friends” on Monday would be “very big -- bigger than anybody would know”?
Far more entertaining would have been any of the possibilities that Paddy Power -- Ireland’s largest betting company, says its website -- posited prior to Wednesday’s noontime flop, according to U.S. News & World Report. In addition to 2:5 odds that the former rumored Republican candidate for president would charge Obama with being un-American, the U.K. bookmaker bet that The Donald would endorse the Democrat (8:1 odds), invite him to appear on “Celebrity Apprentice” (50:1), and claim that the closely shorn Hacker in Chief wore a wig (500:1).
Our favorite, of course, was the 75:1 bet that Trump would offer Obama honorary membership at Trump International Golf Links in Scotland, which Paddy Power described as “a controversial golf course currently under fire by environmental groups and local residents.”
Speaking of Paddy Power, by the way -- Padraig Harrington strutted his Happy Gilmore stuff and cruised to a one-shot win over Webb Simpson in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.
