Graeme McDowell offered a mea culpa of sorts via Twitter on Monday after telling a World Challenge spectator to go wank himself. Or words to that effect.
Graeme McDowell requests a mulligan for ‘mashed potatoes’ gesture
“Oops,” McDowell tweets after offering a spectator a hand during Sunday’s final round of the World Challenge

Cameras captured the two-time winner of Tiger Woods’ annual kicks-and-giggles event making a lewd gesture toward a fan who emitted the ubiquitous “mashed potatoes” yawp during Sunday’s final round at Sherwood Country Club.
The incident occurred after the eventual victor of last week’s 18-player invitational stuffed his approach shot to the 16th green. As McDowell replaced his club, he gazed at the gallery and mouthed a pejorative term that he illustrated in case the Mensa candidate did not speak British.
“Mashed potatoes,” you may recall, made its way into every knowledgable golf fan’s lexicon -- right alongside the classic “You da man!” and “Get in the hole!” which just, really, never get old -- at last year’s Tiger Tourney. GMac, apparently, had second thoughts about his five-fingered salute to the gallery and, after acknowledging the kudos for his first (albeit unofficial) win of the season, kinda, sorta apologized in a tweet.
Thanks for all the messages guys. Fun weekend. Oops on the signal to "mashed potato guy" but it gets a little annoying after a while.
