AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am 2012: Tiger Woods Shoots 2-Under 68 At Monterrey

Tiger Woods’ second day at the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am took him to the Monterrey Peninsula Country Club where he hoped to improve on his opening-round 68. He ended up shooting a 68 once again, though this one came on the par-70 course instead of yesterday’s par-72.

Tiger is now 6-under after two rounds and went into the clubhouse six-back of leader Charles Wi (-12).

Woods got going early, making birdie on the 391-yard par-4 first at Monterey Peninsula but gave it back after finding a fairway bunker off the tee on the par-4 fourth hole, which he bogeyed. Things got cooking on the sixth and seventh holes, which Tiger both birdied and he went into the turn with a 2-under 32.

Tiger continues to take advantage of the par-5s with another birdie, this time on the par-5 12th. After a bogey on the par-4 16th, and a par on the par-4 17th,Woods called it a day. Thirty-three putts revealed a serious issue with his short-game. However, he’s still well within striking distance of the leaders heading into the weekend.

Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson made a run on his second day. Following a 70 on the first day, Mickelson shot a 5-under 65 on Friday, pushing him to 7-under overall and just five shots off the leader. Keep this up and Tiger and Phil could find themselves buddying up this weekend at some point.
