Robert Allenby isn’t the most notable name golfing at the Mayakoba Classic at the El Camaleon in Riviera Maya, Mexico, but the Australian native is looking to change that. Allenby leads by two strokes midway through the final round of the PGA Tour tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Mayakoba Golf Classic 2012: Robert Allenby Leads In Mexico
Allenby has birdied eight times in Sunday afternoon’s final round, and after hitting par on the rest of his holes, he’s moved to a solid 15-under to take control of the leaderboard. Considering he was just seven-under and tied for fifth when the day began, the Australian is doing pretty impressive work thus far on Sunday afternoon.
There’s a tie for second place between American golfers John Huh and Chris Stroud as they’re both 13-under, but only Stroud has a chance at overtaking Allenby as Huh is already in the clubhouse. Colt Knost and Will Claxton round out the leaderboard’s top five.
