Scots Snicker At Donald Trump’s Bombastic Golf Course Demands

Donald Trump may be able to bully contestants on his “Celebrity Apprentice” TV show, but the real estate and golf course mogul may have a wee bit more trouble bossing around the Scots.

During a public hearing before the Scottish parliament on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported that the gallery had a hearty guffaw at Trump’s expense when he produced himself as proof that the country’s plans to build wind turbines off the coast would be disastrous for tourism and, specifically, his new Trump International Golf Resort.

“I am the evidence,” the AP quoted Trump as boasting to committee members about how he knew an offshore wind farm would doom Scotland’s tourist business. “I am a world-class expert in tourism.”

After the onlookers stopped snickering, Trump accused Scottish leaders of betraying him with pledges not to build the turbines.

“I was lured into buying the site, after I had spent my money they came and announced the plan,” said Trump, who reportedly paid $7.2 million for much of the eight miles of land north of Aberdeen in January 2006, according to the AP. “At the time I bought the land I felt confident the wind farm was not going to happen.”

The AP also reported that Trump built his palatial golf club, which is slated to open on July 10, despite opposition from environmentalists who were against the razing of sand dunes in which rare birds had made their homes. Local communities and planning officials have reportedly aligned themselves with Trump, according to the Telegraph.
