Lexi Thompson made history last year when she became the youngest golfer (16 years old) to win an LPGA event. Now, she has undoubtedly become the first professional player to take to YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to find a date to her prom.
Lexi Thompson Wants You: Teen Golf Phenom Seeks Prom Date Via YouTube
If you’re a serviceman between the ages of 18 and 20, LPGA teen phenom Lexi Thompson wants you -- to be her prom date.

Despite being home-schooled, the big-hitting, charismatic tour rookie would likely have no problem finding a hunk to accompany her to the big Coral Glades (Fla.) High School dance. Instead, Thompson decided to thank military personnel for their work by extending a special invitation to just the right serviceman.
“For my date, I am looking for somebody special and that I respect,” Thompson said in a YouTube video. “That’s why I’m choosing a guy from the service.”
The 17-year-old, who won the 2011 Navistar Classic before joining the women’s tour, seeks a guy between the ages of 18 and 20 who “demonstrates the core values of the military including respect, honor, and integrity,” Thompson said on her Facebook page. Fans will help Lexi choose the lucky fella for the May 18, 2012, prom.
The winner will also receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Fort Lauderdale (thanks to Thompson’s sponsors), and a prom evening at Pier 66 he is unlikely to forget.
Thompson instructed would-be dates to send photos to her via her social-media accounts. “If you have any questions ... go to my Facebook fan page or tweet me @lexi with hashtag #lexi prom,” she said. “Hopefully I’ll see one of you there.”
Thompson’s quest has met with a mostly positive response from her Facebook fans, several of whom offered themselves as prospective candidates.
“I am available,” one fellow wrote on Facebook, “and I’ll put the word out to my fellow Marines.”
