The Players Championship 2012 Leaderboard: Ian Poulter And Martin Laird Lead Tight Field After Round 1

The first round of the Players Championship is in the books, and Ian Poulter and Martin Laird share the lead with 7-under 65’s.

Poulter and Laird both started strong and finished stronger, each posting birdies on both 16 and 17, an especially tough feat at Sawgrass. They’re followed by Blake Adams at six-under, Kevin Na and Ben Crane at five-under, and a whole slew of golfers at four-under.

As for Tiger Woods, it wasn’t pretty, as he finished at two-over on the day, a full nine strokes off the lead in a tie for 100th. The two golfers neck and neck for the World No. 1 spot didn’t fare particularly well either, as they’re knotted in a tie with a bunch of other golfers for 56th by going into the clubhouse at even par.
