Tiger Woods continues his charge for his third win of the season, looking to pull off a trifecta at the three tournaments hosted by the biggest names in the history of the game -- Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Woods himself. Tiger won his tournament at Congressional three years ago before it moved north to Aronimink, and he’s battling Bo Van Pelt and Adam Scott for his second win at the event. Woods is 1-under through his first eight holes at Congressional, good enough to hold a tie for the lead with playing partner Van Pelt at 7-under. Woods carded his only birdie of the day on the par-4 5th.

Van Pelt is at 7-under after playing his first eight holes at 1-under par. The super-talented Oklahoman is consistently in contention and has had plenty of top tens over the past three seasons. But despite his hefty earnings, he has just one Tour win. Both he and Woods are two shots clear of rest of the field. Van Pelt will try to fight off Woods on the back nine at his own tournament -- a difficult proposition that Anthony Kim struggled with here three years ago.
Scott adds to the starpower at the top of the leaderboard. The Aussie came out on fire on Sunday morning, carding five birdies in his first eight holes. He’s well ahead of the final group and has cooled off a bit, dropping a shot and moving to 5-under with just four holes to play. He’s running out of chances to add birdies and move back up the board.
