Too Late To Unfollow Charlie Beljan; Someone Shut Down The Obama Hater’s Twitter Account

Unless you followed the Greenbrier Classic carefully, you probably don’t know who Charlie Beljan is. The world’s 371st-ranked golfer shot an 8-under 62 in the second round of the July tournament, finished in a tie for third, and promptly disappeared back into obscurity. Now, the PGA Tour pro, who’s racked up nine missed cuts and two withdrawals in 17 tour events this season, has made something of a name for himself on Twitter, where -- before his account mysteriously vanished sometime on Monday -- Beljan called President Barack Obama a “D Bag” and, using some wicked tortured reasoning, connected POTUS with the sex scandal at Penn State.

Geoff Shackleford brought Beljan’s rantings -- in which he typed that Obama was the “biggest D Bag this country has ever seen” -- to light and noted a back-and-forth with a Penn State employee who took issue with the sixth-year pro golfer’s offensive comments. Beljan’s witty riposte to his former fan? “Guess Obama and PSU go hand in hand.”

As Shackleford reported, it didn’t take long for Beljan’s Twitter page to disappear, thanks, no doubt, to the suits in Ponte Vedra -- although, as Shackleford pointed out, you’ll never get them to admit pulling the plug on Beljan’s budding career as a social commentator, or about how much they fined him for his indiscretion.

On the plus side for Beljan, with his social media obligations out of the way, he has more time to practice his short game. Prior to his turn at this week’s Wyndham Championship, the University of New Mexico grad was the 190th best putter on tour and similarly proficient in other categories, according to his official tour page.

In an amusing twist, the 28-year-old brain trust from Arizona drives a Smart Car. Go figure.
