There’s certainly plenty of golf to go before a winner is crowned, but the 2012 Bridgestone Invitational is turning into Jim Furyk’s event to lose.
WGC-Bridgestone Invitational 2012: Jim Furyk Holds 4 Shot Lead Midway Through Third Round
Through nine holes on Saturday’s third round, Furyk holds a firm four-shot lead. He’s got one birdie and no bogeys so far on the day.
Furyk’s playing partner for the third round, Spain’s Rafael Cabrera Bello, has fallen well off the pace with a tumultuous front nine, including two double bogeys, two bogeys and two birdies. At 4-over on the day and 5-under overall, Bello is currently tied for eighth place.
The biggest risers of the day have been Keegan Bradley and Steve Stricker. Both are 3-under on the day, 7-under overall, and have moved into a tie for third place, behind Furyk and Louis Oosthuizen.
With this tournament’s results going towards the FedEx Cup, Bradley’s and Stricker’s jump onto the first page of the leaderboard is key as both sit in the top 10 of the overall standings.
It should also be noted that Lee Westwood, the world’s fourth ranked golfer, shot an abysmal 81 today to move to 11-over through three rounds. He’s currently 70th out of the 75 remaining golfers in the tournament.
