Johnny Miller Wants A Mulligan On Coaching Tiger Woods

Despite rebuffing overtures from Tiger Woods to act as his swing coach back in the day, Johnny Miller would now relish the opportunity to help Woods unlearn all the bad habits he’s picked up under three world renown instructors. “Not many people know this, but when Tiger had been on tour for two or three years, his people called and asked if I would give him lessons on short irons,” Miller claims in the publication. “Jack Nicklaus told him I was the best short iron player ever -- a pretty great compliment.”

Miller, who’s built a cottage industry out of extolling his own virtues and criticizing Woods, avers that -- though he turned down the original request so he could spend more time with family and attend to his NBC duties -- after more than a decade of mulling it over, he would like to revise his response.

“He’s the guy I’d like to help most,” Miller offers, according to the magazine. “I’ve been watching him since he was in junior golf. I know all the swings he’s had. I think I could help him get back to his natural swing, not the swing someone else wants him to make. I’m open to helping him.”

Since turning pro, Woods has studied under Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, and Sean Foley. Given such illustrious company -- and Miller’s 2010 declaration (among other commentaries) that Woods had “damaged the game of golf” with his serial philandering -- we suggest that Johnny not give up his day job just yet.
