With the PGA Tour’s season-opener going up against the first weekend of NFL playoffs, what better way to kick off the new golf year than with Sunday Night Football-like player introductions?
Hyundai Tournament of Champions: Are you ready for some golf -- Sunday Night Football style?
The PGA Tour looks to the NFL for new ways to kick off the 2013 season.

Golfers competing in this week’s Tournament of Champions will usher in 2013 on the first tee of Friday’s opening round by stating their names, hometowns, and the 2012 events they won. Which, of course, reminded us of this classic “East/West College Bowl” clip from Key and Peele:
C’mon, Bubba, we dare you: “Jackmerius Tacktheritrix. Bagdad, Florida. The Masters.”
Another new feature that NBC will adapt from the football side of the house and debut at Kapalua is the Landing Zone. Instead of telling viewers that Watson faces a “first and 10,” as the technology informs pigskin fans, the graphic will measure the reigning Masters champ’s prodigious tee shots on the 663-yard, par-5 18th on the Plantation Course.
The Landing Zone will mark off distances in 25-yard increments on the 18th fairway, which has been the site of some of the longest drives of any tour season. Since 2003, 92 drives on the finishing hole at Kapalua have traveled more than 400 yards -- equal to more than a quarter of all 400-yard tee shots on tour in the last nine years.
