2013 Shriners Open: Tee times, TV schedule for Thursday’s round

The PGA Tour’s new wraparound schedule stops for its second event this week, the 2013 Shriners Open just outside Las Vegas. This is one of the older, classic fall series events that generally draws a solid field relative to its unenviable spot on the calendar.

With the new system, there’s also now a full allotment of FedExCup points for 2014 and a Masters berth available. I suppose you could argue the event has lost a little cache with Justin Timberlake, who’s been a title “presented by” sponsor the last five years, no longer associated with this tourney. But the FedExCup points and enhanced status under the new schedule matter much more for the golfers.

There are 132 players in the field this week, including defending champ Ryan Moore, Zach Johnson, Angel Cabrera, Davis Love III, and Webb Simpson. Golf Channel will continue their coverage of the early season slate, coming on the air on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET. The first two stops of this wraparound schedule have been west coast events, allowing Golf Channel to carry their broadcast into primetime in the east. They’ll run coverage until 8 p.m. for all four days of this week’s tournament before things head overseas to Asia for two weeks.
