Jordan Spieth’s amazing one-day trip to the top 2 golf courses in America

That professional golfers have a better life than you is not a new revelation. But 20-year-old Jordan Spieth is having a year that really illuminates just how good some of these world class players have it.

Spieth, a touted amateur and blue chip player at Texas, started the year without a PGA Tour card but finished with one win, three seconds, nine top 10s, a Presidents Cup spot, and almost $4 million in winnings. But one day this week might top the previous nine months of highlights.

We last saw Spieth in not the best of moods at the Presidents Cup, lamenting a water ball late on Sunday singles:

There was likely no time, however, for momentary frustration this week when Spieth, accompanied by some members of his “team”, played the top two courses in the country...on the same day. One is in Georgia, and the other is in New Jersey. These are the perks of being a pro golf millionaire, where private charters are the only method of transportation.

Pine Valley and Augusta National are the consensus 1-2 in American golf course rankings. They may rotate in the top spot, but no other course -- Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst No. 2, etc. -- is cracking that top two and moving ahead of Pine Valley and ANGC. It’s also impossible to get on them, but that’s where being the next great American golf superstar comes in handy.

So the Texan started in Jersey, at Pine Valley, a club so exclusive that they do not deign to host the public hordes and cameras that would accompany an official PGA Tour event or major championship.

Getting a tee time at Pine Valley would be a golf life highlight for most of the world, but Spieth went for it all and doubled up with a round in the Georgia gloaming:

The next day, Spieth would play the full 18 at Augusta, where he’ll make his tournament debut next April.
