The PGA Tour will hold its first ever official FedExCup event in China this week, making this year’s WGC-HSBC Champions a sanctioned stop. The event outside Shanghai has attracted some of the world’s best players for several years, as appearance fees and sponsors opportunities in the sport’s fastest growing region lured names like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson to Asia in the fall.
How to watch Thursday’s WGC-HSBC Champions from Shanghai live online, TV schedule and more
If you’re unable to sleep, there will be plenty of golf to watch overnight this week.

But now it’s an official WGC event, with the full 550 FedExCup points and a Masters invite on the line. Like all WGC events, and the tournament last week in Kuala Lumpur, there’s a limited field, which makes scheduling tee times a little easier. The Tour will send the smaller field out in groups of three off split tees, but there will be no afternoon wave. So everyone playing in the field should have at least some of their round fall within the broadcast window.
Shanghai is exactly 12 hours ahead of the eastern U.S., and Golf Channel will start coverage late Wednesday night at 11 p.m. ET. The broadcast is scheduled to run until 4 a.m. for all four rounds. If you can’t watch on TV, they’ll offer the usual simulcast of the coverage through their LiveExtra service. So just like last week in Malaysia, there will be a full week of latenight golf to take in if you’re dedicated.
