Your Presidents Cup Saturday pairings...nevermind

Andy LyonsThe second session of the Presidents Cup may not have finished, but both the American and International captains were set to announce the pairings and order for session three ... until a late audible was made.
The Friday set of six Foursomes matches could not finish before darkness, thanks to another lengthy rain delay. There are still four matches that need to finish, the last one is just through 11 holes. With those four points from session two still up for grabs, play will resume at Muirfield Village at 7:35 a.m. ET. Here’s where those unresolved matches from Friday stand:

Allan Henry-USA TODAY SportsPlay has been called on Friday at the 2013 Presidents Cup, with four of six matches still incomplete. A lengthy rain delay hit Muirfield Village for the second straight day, but this one drenched the course for a couple hours and made finishing Friday night impossible, even under the Foursomes format that sets a rapid pace. Team USA currently leads 4.5 to 3.5, and each side picked up a point before darkness fell.
Phil MIckelson and Keegan Bradley rediscovered their form from last year’s Ryder Cup, blitzing the International duo of Jason Day and Graham DeLaet in the all-important lead-off match. Mickelson and Bradley fell behind a hole early, but then won seven of eight during an incredible run to pick up a point before darkness. Mickelson and Bradley were having a blast all day, much like at Medinah last fall. It was a welcome sight following their lackluster loss yesterday.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsThe first Friday Foursomes match at the Presidents Cup has wrapped up, and it was an American rout orchestrated by the duo of Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley. They were the two stars of the Ryder Cup last year, and after a lackluster losing effort yesterday, the two caught fire on Friday.
Bradley and Mickelson were out in the all-important lead-off match, facing perhaps the International team’s best pairing -- Graham DeLaet and Jason Day. After falling 1-down early, the American pair won seven of eight holes to storm to a 6-up lead. It was a dazzling run of shot-making and clutch putts, the two going out in 30 on the front nine -- a ridiculous number for the alternating shot Foursomes format.

Matt SullivanThe likelihood of a restart of Friday Foursomes at the Presidents Cup is dwindling by the minute. What initially looked like a short burst of a storm has turned into a persistent deluge, dumping buckets of water on a Muirfield Village layout that was already soaked.
Beyond the greens, the bunkers, as displayed by this shot from Rex Hoggard, are also a mess:

Allan Henry-USA TODAY SportsThe 2013 Presidents Cup will be competitive until at least Friday afternoon, as the International side charged back late Thursday afternoon. Nick Price’s team fell behind in all six matches on the front nine, but after a lengthy weather delay, the Internationals regrouped to cut the deficit to a manageable one point after the opening six-match session.
Now the matches transition to the Foursomes format, alternating shot play that’s been brutally unforgiving to the Internationals. The team does not have the luxury of playing the extremely rare and unique alternate shot format every year, like the core of the American team. There’s pretty dramatic International roster turnover every two years, including this fall with half the team being rookies. So there’s very little experience completely relying on a partner, who may play a different ball with different distance control and feel. That’s a problem for world-class players who are control freaks about every shot, and these are guys who have jetted in from all over the world for a couple perfunctory days of practice with guys they don’t know nearly as well as the American side knows each other.

Allan Henry-USA TODAY SportsWhat looked like another American rout turned tense late at Muirfield Village, as the International team regrouped during a 90-minute weather delay to cut the deficit to just one point after the first six matches. It was ugly for the first couple hours, as they trailed in all six matches. But Nick Price’s team charged back late in the gloaming in Columbus. The Americans, led by Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar, hold a 3.5- to 2.5-point lead after six Four-ball matches.
