Rory McIlroy hones his game on the French Riviera

Warren Little

While Tiger Woods was busy capturing his 75th PGA Tour victory last week and Phil Mickelson got agonizingly close on Thursday to firing a 59, Rory McIlroy was tuning up his game by playing resort golf on the French Riviera.

Last spotted missing the cut in Abu Dhabi, the world No. 1 has been trying to get comfortable with his new Nike clubs on the Monte Carlo Golf Club at Mont Agel, according to Bernie McGuire. His practice must be working, since tennis star girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki -- who missed her own cut of sorts when she lost in the fourth round of the Australian Open last month -- tweeted that the curly-haired one was making “golf look easy.”

The European Tour staged the Monte Carlo Open from 1984 to 1992 at the Willie Park Jr.-designed venue, reputed to have spectacular views of Monte Carlo, the Alps, and the Mediterranean. Ooh la la!
