“Did you beat Tiger?” shouted reporters who had been shut out of the historic golf match on Sunday at The Floridian National Golf Club, a private course in Palm City, according to Politico.
Obama, who stepped out of a helicopter onto the South Lawn at 8:10 p.m. Monday, apparently heard the question but offered just a smile as a response, Politico observed.
The interchange occurred after reporters on Sunday “expressed extreme frustration” about what they considered a lack of access to the Woods-Obama outing, a story that veteran golf writer Tim Rosaforte broke on Twitter.
White House officials issued a statement addressing the issue, saying that press access was “entirely consistent” with that of “previous presidential golf outings,” though Obama allowed photo ops when he played with Speaker of the House John Boehner and former president Bill Clinton.
For now, at least, the final tally of Obama v. Woods will apparently remain classified information.
