The first round of the 2013 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tees off early Thursday morning on the Monterey Peninsula. The title of the tournament is a bit of a misnomer, with only two of a golfer’s four rounds played at Pebble Beach. Monterey has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to world class golf courses, and it’s probably the best area on the planet to play top-notch tracks. Spyglass Hill and the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club will host in addition to Pebble, keeping up the tradition of the annual Crosby Clambake which spread the wealth around the peninsula. Cypress Point, one of the top 10 courses in the country, was a staple of this event but has not hosted play since 1991.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2013: Tee times, pairings and TV schedule for Thursday
One of the Tour’s legendary events tees off Thursday morning on the Monterey Peninsula, where 156 professionals and 156 amateurs start the 2013 Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

In addition to the three-course rotation, players this week will also be paired with an amateur -- typically a celebrity, although that term can be used loosely, or some rich business exec associated with the Tour or a player’s sponsorship. That creates foursomes that go off split tees on three courses for the first three rounds, a logistical anomaly for the PGA Tour. It also makes for long days but at least the players are buoyed by the views of what Robert Louis Stevenson called the “the most felicitous meeting of land and sea in creation.”
Golf Channel will carry coverage of the opening round from 3 to 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, with additional replay coverage scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET. Phil Mickelson, the defending champion, is set to tee off at MPCC just before 1 p.m. ET and should be featured throughout much of the afternoon coverage. Here’s a complete list of Thursday’s tee times, with all times ET:
