The first round is underway on Monterey Peninsula and players at all three venues populate the first page of the leaderboard. Hunter Mahan, Matt Every and Seung-Yol Noh currently lead at 6-under.
Pebble Beach Pro-Am 2013 leaderboard: Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson making birdies early
The professionals are lighting up the Monterey Peninsula on Thursday, led by Hunter Mahan who has taken an early lead at Pebble Beach.

Mahan set an early pace at Pebble Beach, carding birdies on six of his first 11 holes so far. With television coverage restricted to Pebble, he’ll be certainly be featured throughout Golf Channel’s afternoon coverage. After winning the Shell Houston Open early in April, Mahan struggled in the second half of the season last year and even fell out of qualifying for the Ryder Cup. He still remains one of the best and most consistent American players in the world and is a threat to win each and every week. He has been inside the top 16 the past two weeks so his impressive start is not exactly unsurprising.
Noh and Every have also been known to get on hot streaks. Noh is tied for the lead after playing 14 holes at Spyglass Hill, while Every has just one more hole remaining at Pebble. Two shots back of the leaders is Lee Westwood, who’s making his PGA Tour debut this season at Pebble. Westwood doesn’t always play this event, but he finished a 4-under round of 68 at Pebble playing alongside his dad.
Phil Mickelson was the favorite entering the week and he’s back inside the top 10 as he makes the turn at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Mickelson can tie Mark O’Meara with five wins at this event and he has all facets of his game working right now. He’s 3-under through his first 10 holes and has yet to make a bogey, building off his incredible work last week at TPC Scottsdale.
There are more than 20 players tied for 9th with Mickelson at 3-under, but here’s the top of the leaderboard ahead of that group:
