The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is often the site of the worst shots at any PGA Tour event all season. The “celebrity” amateurs chop it up alongside the professionals -- sometimes this is funny for schadenfreude reasons and sometimes this is just sad, depending on the celebrity. It was tough to watch Lee Westwood’s dad groundball his approach shot down the left fairway bunker on No. 18. As for Chris Berman, he’s an amateur who engenders far less sympathy.

Berman, who plays in the event almost every year dressed in dopey Hawaiian shirts, had a little bit of a struggle getting out of the sand trap on Thursday. He left not one but two shots in the bunker, and nearly tumbled backwards into the sand on his second attempt. Video of Boomer’s struggles:
Berman is playing with fellow Connecticut native J.J. Henry. Their team is currently tied for 102nd place in that portion of the event.
